Resolve Handheld Raman Analyzer for Chemical Identification

Resolve Handheld Raman Analyzer for Chemical Identification

Providing a revolutionary new capability in hazardous chemical identification and incident response, the Resolve handheld Raman analyzer enables rapid identification of explosives, narcotics, toxic industrial chemicals, chemical warfare agents, and other materials through sealed, opaque containers. The system identifies materials from comprehensive libraries, with Agilent’s unique handheld SORS technology enabling positive chemical identification through a wide range of sealed nonmetallic containers, barriers, and packaging.

Resolve’s through-barrier handheld Raman capability enables safer operation by removing the need to open containers. Hazards remain confined and evidence is more easily preserved, allowing first responders to identify substances early in an operation, prior to escalation. A portable Raman analyzer built to withstand tough user environments, Resolve is deployed in hazmat response, EOD, CBRN, law enforcement, and for parcel screening at customs, ports, and borders.

How It Works

Unknown chemical identification

Resolve uses SORS technology to identify unknown solids, powders and liquids through nonmetallic, sealed containers such as colored and opaque plastics, glass, paper, wrapping, sacks, and fabrics. Exposed materials and samples in clear glass vials can also be analyzed (order new vials for the Resolve vial holder here). Watch the video for a comprehensive ‘how to’ guide to Resolve measurements.

The Reachback service supports users with any spectroscopic queries. Send your Reachback request directly from your Resolve when connected to WiFi or upload your scans to our website.

Resolve—stay safe

Resolve features are designed to improve operator safety during use. The through barrier capability reduces the risk of exposure to hazardous materials and its unique optical technology significantly reduces the risk of igniting sensitive explosives.

Resolve has been designed for use in protective gear and optional WiFi connectivity allows measurements to be run remotely. Watch the video to see how an EOD team uses an ROV-mounted Resolve with remote control to identify the contents of an abandoned suspicious package from a safe distance.

Extensive libraries

Three levels of library package are available, depending on your requirements: Standard, Toxic and Hazardous, or Comprehensive packages. Library updates are available every 6 months.

The Command fleet management software allows users to create their own Resolve libraries and distribute them to their fleet.

Applications

Hazmat and CBRN

For the challenges of Hazmat and CBRN operations, Resolve’s SORS technology identifies solid and liquid hazardous materials concealed behind single or multiple barriers. Use time-in-suit and breathing gear efficiently by scanning through barriers. Watch the video to see Resolve’s identification capabilities in action during a clandestine lab investigation.

In a study published in 2023, Resolve was assessed to be the highest-rated handheld Raman device according to the US Department of Homeland Security SAVER Program.

Drug and narcotics identification

Resolve is a powerful tool in the detection and identification of controlled substances, precursors, and cutting agents in settings such as border controls or specialist operations.
This is thanks to the combination of SORS, high data quality, reduced fluorescence interference, and a library continuously updated with new psychoactive substances (NPS).

Combine Raman and FTIR technologies for the most comprehensive drug identification solution.

Explosives identification

Resolve can easily differentiate benign containers from those containing home-made, commercial, and military explosive materials—all in approximately one minute, without any of the containers being opened. The system’s unique SORS optics and high optical throughput also greatly reduce the risk of accidental detonation or deflagration of sensitive explosives.

Watch the video to see how Resolve can be deployed to identify suspicious cargo in an abandon vehicle.

Technology

Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS)

Spatially offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) is a unique way to analyze objects when the contents are behind non-transparent layers or containers.

Handheld & Portable Raman Spectrometers

The development of handheld Raman spectrometers sparked a step change in portable spectroscopy applications, enabling users to conduct measurements in the field, wherever required. Agilent portable Raman systems use SORS to measure through opaque containers in pharmaceutical raw material ID, hazmat, CBRN, and policing.
